LARIL compounds are based on PPOm neat resin, a blend between PPE, a resin built directly from the relative monomer, and HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene). Pure PPE is very difficult to be transformed, so blends were created in order to improve mouldability. The best well-known blend is PPOm.

Main properties
  • Excellent dimensional stability;
  • Excellent toughness, even at low temperatures;
  • Effective hydrolysis stability;
  • Fair chemical resistance;
  • Low optical density and low smoke toxicity.
The best features of LARIL compounds can easily be identified by: an excellent toughness even at low temperatures, a good thermal behaviour and dimensional stability. These properties allow using LARIL compounds within a wide temperature range (from -40°C to +110°C). LARIL shows an outstanding hydrolysis resistance, so they are often used for hot water contact applications.

Reinforced grades
LARIL compounds reinforced with fibres show higher stiffness, better dimensional stability, low coefficient of linear thermal expansion and a continuous use temperature without load up to 120°C (150°C for short periods of time).

Electrical partially conductive grades

LARIL compounds can be formulated in partially conductive or dissipative versions, even reinforced: these features can be found by searching in the LATIOHM product range.

Cracking or long-term rupture due to internal residual stresses can be found. In order to prevent or reduce such phenomena, careful part design and correct moulding process are required. Eventually, annealing parts at 100°C (1 hour per mm of wall thickness) allows reducing residual stresses.
