LATIMASS compounds are based on different base resins and are used to obtain products having density different than common thermoplastics.

Density of thermoplastics for injection moulding falls between 1 and 1.5 g/cm3, depending on the type of filler or reinforcement added to the polymer. However, exigency to produce parts heavier of lighter than common thermoplastic led to formulation of products where density can be fixed in a range between 0.8 and 9.5 g/cm3.

High density LATIMASS
These types of compounds are obtained by adding mineral or metallic fillers to the base resin. Density values up to 9.5 g/cm3 can be obtained. Nevertheless the peculiar formulation, High density LATIMASS can be easily moulded by using almost standard processing conditions. By choosing suitable base resins allows to fill complex cavities, even with thin walls. Moulded parts exhibit excellent surface appearance, good dimensional stability and mechanical properties.
Furthermore, thanks to high density of the fillers, LATIMASS compounds offers good X-ray shielding properties, allowing the substitution of lead in medical equipments and radiography for the industrial sector.

Low density LATIMASS
Use of expanding agents in injection moulding can often be difficult to manage or otherwise not practicable. Low Density LATIMASS are compounds filled with special hollow spheres, which are optimal to obtain low-density products (less than 1 g/cm3).
Moulded parts are extremely light, stiff and exhibit an excellent surface appearance and a good dimensional stability.
